Resources- Employer- Candidate Screening
When interviewing candidates we suggest you view their original drivers licence and copies of any qualifications they have that are relevant to the role.
Reference Checks
In order for an employer to be comfortable that the candidate they have chosen is in fact the person they want and require, YPW recommends conducting reference checks where appropriate. We suggest checking one business and personal referee at least. When reference checking individuals you may consider asking some or all of the following questions:
- What is your relationship with the candidate (personal or professional)?
- In what capacity have you dealt with the candidate (did they report to you, work alongside you or as a business colleague)?
- How long have you known them or worked with them?
- What were the candidate’s responsibilities?
- Can you detail the candidate’s strengths?
- Can you detail any areas for improvement?
- Detail the role they will be taking on and ask for a comment on their suitability?
- Why did they leave or why are they leaving their current position/role?
- Would you be happy to employ the candidate again and why/why not?
Police Checks
YPW suggests that for your own peace of mind, you ensure your chosen part time candidate has obtained a police check. A Police Check provides a copy of an individual’s National Criminal History Record. You should view the original police check. Alternatively, www.riskandcompliance.com.au offers a range of services at affordable prices that may be of interest.
