Resources- Candidate- Profiles- Tips to Write a Great One

Prospective employers will view the information you provide on Your Parttime Workforce word-for-word and will use your details to conduct their search. It is therefore very important to complete all of the details listed on the registration page.

Confidentiality is important to Your Parttime Workforce. When registering your details you will be provided with an automatically generated candidate ID to maintain your confidentiality.

Your profile WILL show your age, gender and the suburb where you live and you can choose whether to include your first name. Your profile WILL NOT detail your home address, home telephone number, mobile number or email address. Communication with prospective employers is anonymous until you choose to provide them with direct contact details.

Choose a category and a sub category that is most suited to the work you are looking for. Your profile will be displayed to employers who search that category in general or narrow their search to a particular sub category. You can only choose one category and one subcategory.

Looking for a new career direction is an additional category all candidates can choose to register under. This is for candidates who might be open to a career change, but you will only be included in this category if you specifically choose the option. You can login at any time and amend your profile to include or exclude this category.

Availability and hours of work will inform prospective employers about how many hours you prefer to work in total and the days and times you are available. For example, you may want to work 24 hours a week in total but may only be available during school hours or able to work three full eight hour days. Similarly, you may only be available three particular days of a week due to other commitments such as childcare. Alternatively, you may be flexible in initially setting the three days.

How far you are willing to travel is important information as your profile will only be displayed to employers whose business postcode is within the parameters you set.

The personal paragraph gives you the opportunity to make a first impression, introduce yourself to prospective employers and briefly describe your experiences, goals and job/career aspirations. It’s helpful to think of this paragraph as the brief covering letter you would normally include with your resume. It should be clearly and accurately written with all spelling and grammar carefully checked. Your Parttime Workforce does not amend any details included in this paragraph.

The summary of key skills includes the core skills you would like to highlight to prospective employers. Consider making these specific to the type of work and type of employer you are looking for. There is a specific section where you can include your levels of qualifications (from school, TAFE, trade or university/post graduate) and you can also include a qualifications statement. Keep the information concise and make sure you don’t include the same information in more than one place. You want to include as much information as possible about yourself and your skills.

What type of work are you looking for? Provides prospective employers with an indication of the kind of work and range of duties you are happy to perform and where your interests lie.

Police Checks are often a good idea if your type of work involves entering private residences (Eg: nannies, babysitters, cleaners, etc) and may make a big difference when an employer is short listing candidates for part time work. If you require a police check you can do this online at www.mypolicecheck.com.au.
